Florida Digital Turnpike — Dialup Networking
Dialup Networking won't save my password. How
do I fix it?
One of two things can cause this:
- When Windows 95 first loads on the computer,
if
Dial-Up Networking is
install, normally Windows will
prompt for a username
and password. If 'Cancel' is
selected, it will disable
Dial-Up Networking's 'Save
Password' check box.
- The password list file is corrupt.
These are the resolutions respectively:
- Make sure you put a valid username and password
when prompted. HINT: (If the original
password is lost, type
in a new username, and leave the
password blank. Then
when you are prompted again, you can
select 'Ok' without
typing a password every
time.)
- Remove the password list file from the Windows
folder, then restart
the computer. WARNING (FDT does not recommend deleting files on
your computer without
knowledge of how to do
so)
This is how to do
it:
- Make sure there are no programs
running
- Click 'Start', 'Find', 'Files or
Folders'
- In the 'Named' box type: *.pwl
- Click 'Find Now'
- Delete the file in the Windows folder
only.
- Restart the computer.
