Using Internet Explorer 4.x and 5.x on Your Mac

As a Mac user, you are probably quite familiar with the Netscape browser and see no need to try Communicator's Microsoft counterpart. Using Internet Explorer is a little strange at first, but once you get the hang of it, you may even find yourself liking it better than the latest offering from Mozilla [gasp]! Here's a few pointers:

  1. How to type in a URL
  2. How to move back and forth from page to page
  3. How to add a site to your Favorites list
  4. How to go back to a site via your Favorites list
  5. The joy of the History tab
  6. Search!

1. How to type in a URL

  1. Find the URL in the Address: field.
    URL window
  2. Highlight the URL with your mouse and delete it.
    Highlight URL
  3. Replace it by typing in the URL of the place you want to go.
    type URL
  4. Hit Return, and you're on your way.

2. How to move back and forth from page to page

The Back button--
back button
--allows you to go the page you had just visited.

The Forward button--
foward button
--lets you move forward again, after you've clicked Back. Let's say you start at page 1. You click on the link to page 2. You realize that you weren't done with page 1, so you click on the Back button. After you're done with page 1, you can click the Forward button to continue reading page 2. Try it--you'll understand.

3. How to add a site to your Favorites list

  1. Go to the site you want to add.
  2. Click on the Favorites, and select "Add to Favorites."
  3. That's it--you're done. Click on the Tab again to make it slide back into place.

4. How to visit a site via your Favorites list

That's simple--click on the Favorites tab, and from the Favorites list, select the website you want to visit. You can also visit your favorite sites by clicking on your "Favorites" button.

5. The joy of the History tab

This button is very handy! Let's say you visited this really cool site three days ago, but you can't remember where it was, and you didn't add it to your Favorites list. Simply click on the History tab to view a list of all the sites you've visited during the period the browser has recorded.

6. Search!

Click on the Search tab to find anything you need on the Internet!
